Let’s spice it up a bit this year, shall we?

The Spicy Thai Margarita

In a cocktail shaker, add

1 finger of peeled ginger, sliced into small bits

5 small chunks of fresh lemongrass

1/2 lime

1/3 Thai red chili or jalepeno pepper

*muddle enthusiastically*

Add 5 oz Laughing Glass Original Margarita

Shake, strain over ice, garnish with Thai red chili and lemongrass stalk.

WORD TO THE WISE: Thai red chilies are my preference but they are extremely spicy, please use caution and watch those seeds!

Local Libations – Laughing Glass Cocktails in Marin Magazine

Local Libations

Planning a summer potluck? Consider creating a booze bar where only locally made or sold spirits are served. Here’s a few to get you started.

HANSON VODKA The Hanson family of Tiburon has been distilling award-winning organic fruit-infused vodka since 2013; its original vodka was just awarded 96 points by the Ultimate Spirits Challenge of New York. This certified gluten-free spirit is distilled in Sonoma, comes in five different flavors and is sold at most specialty retailers in Marin. hansonofsonoma.com

LAUGHING GLASS No mixing needed for these low-calorie margaritas concocted by two Marin moms, Carey Clahan and Sydney Rainin-Smith, who also made sure the drinks were all-natural, vegan and gluten-free. Available in regular or pomegranate flavor, throughout California. laughingglasscocktails.com

SALT POINT A Moscow mule in a can? This great idea was hatched right here in Mill Valley by Marin native Heather Wyatt. You’ll find the fun-filled four-packs at most Bay Area Whole Foods and Mollie Stone’s stores. saltpoint.co

SAMMY’S BEACH BAR RUM We’re willing to bet very few people know how to emulate the taste of the islands better than Sammy Hagar, and his eponymous Beach Bar Rum is, ahem, proof. This cane rum sourced from the fields of Hawaii will add a bit of aloha to any gathering. sammysbeachbarrum.com

SANTO This unique black bottle is also the brainchild of Hagar: bonding over a love of tequila with buddy Adam Levine, he found a team to create the world’s first “mezquila,” a blend of tequila and mescal. santomezquila.com

Summer is officially here and we feel like it’s our responsibility to keep you happy and cool in the toasty summer sunshine. We also want you to keep your cool when you plan your summer soirees! You need ideas that are as easy as they are refreshing, and that look like something to enjoy on a shaded veranda overlooking the ocean. These simple and delish recipes will help you beat the heat without ever breaking a sweat:

The LGC Pool Party

Yes, we did! We made a slushie! How fun does this look for your next party? This drink was voted Most Deserving of a Cocktail Umbrella by several distinguished sources.

Ingredients:

1 bottle original Laughing Glass Margarita

Blue Curacao

Zip lock freezer bags

Method:

Add half bottle of Laughing Glass to bag, add enough blue curacao for your desired color, close bag with care!, freeze at least 2 hours, repeat!

Margarita Soaked Watermelon

Amazing, refreshing and mouth watering! The key here is a little product we found called Little Waisted glitter sugars and cocktail salts. We have added their lime flavored cocktail salt to these watermelon slices, and we are obsessed with their other fun, sparkly products!

Method:

Slice melon, pour LGC original margarita onto pieces, keep chilled in fridge, dip into fancy salt or sugar, enjoy.

Pitcher Style Pomegranate Ginger Paloma

Make this before your guests arrive and then relax!

Ingredients:

1 bottle Laughing Glass Pomegranate Margarita

Fresh grapefruit juice

Ginger Liquor (optional)

Very dry ginger beer

Grapefruit and lime for garnish

Method:

In a pitcher filled with ice, add bottle of LGC Pomegranate margaritas, 2 cups fresh grapefruit juice, 1 cup Ginger Liquor. Stir gently, add floater of 1 cup ginger beer and fresh fruit as garnish.

When I Met You In The Summer

Spicy Pineapple Marg Cropped6.22.16

Flags and fireworks, backyards and barbeques, sunshine and swimming pools…  it’s official, summer is here!

While you are enjoying the parades, parties and patriotism that make this time of year so awesome, we thought we’d add a spicy little margarita recipe to help you get your groove on. The essential ingredient in this crafty quaff is the (sometimes hard to find) Ancho Reyes – a spicy liquor distilled from ancho chilies. It brings the earthy flavors of warm dried chilies and a hint of cinnamon, and it packs some heat! Find it ahead of time here – http://anchoreyes.com/en/locator.html

Here is the recipe – super simple with three equal parts, just add all the ingredients over ice and gently stir. Serves one.

The Laughing Glass Pineapple Firecracker Margarita

2 ounces Laughing Glass Original Margarita

2 ounces Ancho Reyes – ancho chile liquor

2 ounces fresh pineapple juice

Garnish with pineapple wedge

So what are your plans this summer?  For us, the Fourth of July means gathering your friends, flashin’ some flesh, getting your groove on, and sipping margaritas in the sun. If you are still sitting at your desk with only visions of sunny beaches and frosty cocktails dancing in your head – don’t worry, the glory that is a THREE DAY HOLIDAY WEEKEND is right around the corner!  So gather your crew, make this spicy cocktail, and let the fireworks begin!
